When the unit of Joker bumped into a procession of holy men in Chandigarh, Farah and Shirish cast them in cameos
We hear about celebrity guest appearances in films all the time but a cameo of real-life sadhus, on a procession for Mahashivratri, is truly divine intervention!
Well, that’s exactly what happened when Farah Khan was shooting a song for her husband Shirish Kunder’s Joker, with lead actors Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha on the outskirts of Chandigarh.
A source from the unit spilled about the sadhu saga in Joker, saying, “Since it was Mahashivratri, there was a pooja going on at location.
The cast spotted a lot of sadhus passing by, which gave Akshay and Farah the impromptu idea to get the sadhus to do a cameo for a song.
One of the crew members went and spoke to them. At first, they seemed very reluctant and were not agreeing. Farah explained that she required them for a miniscule shot, and no dancing or singing.”
The source continues, “They eventually gave in and did a blink-and-miss role. Shirish loved the shot so much that he insisted on having the extras to dress up like them too in order to shoot a proper song sequence. Farah too found it very interesting.”
The source went on to tell us, “Akshay was enjoying himself on the sets. He chanted his father-in-law Rajesh Khanna’s song ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’. Akshay and Sonakshi clicked a picture with the sadhus, who happily posed with them.
They wrapped up late that evening, after all the sadhu images were incorporated into the song, auspiciously on Mahashivratri.”
When contacted, Shirish laughed, and said, “It was quite a spontaneous decision. We saw the sadhus and decided to have them.
We also made our extras dress up like them.” Om Shanti Om.
