Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and controversy go hand in hand! The actor has reportedly landed at a trouble again when the Income Tax Department moved the Bombay High Court claiming a huge amount of Rs 4 crores in a tax evasion case.
The IT department has challenged the order of the appellate body that forgave the actor from paying the amount. A bench headed by Justice V V Daga will hear the case soon. The actor was charged by the Income Tax Department with an amount of Rs 4 crores for assessment year 2000-2001. During the same financial year, Salman declared his income to be Rs 9.32 crores. But, as per the findings of the IT department, his income amounted to Rs 13.61 crores and the actor was informed about the reassessment.
Later, Salman challenged this estimation order before the Commissioner of Income Tax and won the ruling in his favour. Following this, the Income Tax department then filed a petition in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) but the allegations were dismissed.
The Income Tax department has finally approached the High Court to set aside the ITAT order and demanded a stay on the implementation of the order. After hearing both sides, the court will give its final ruling.
