AFTER Sheila Ki Jawani, it was Sheila ki Hindi that floored the Delhi crowd at her recent promotional stop in the Capital at Ansal Plaza on Wednesday. A huge crowd gathered at the amphitheatre demanded that Katrina Kaif, on whom the latest chartbuster Sheila Ki Jawani has been filmed, should speak in Hindi.
Kaif, who was there to promote her forthcoming film Tees Maar Khan by Farah Khan, set for the release this Friday, attempted to please in her heavily accented Hindi.
“ I am very glad that the audiences love me so much and they want to hear my Hindi,” she said and then switched to English, requesting the people to watch her forthcoming release. “ Love me as much as you loved Sheila,” she asked the onlookers.
Though it is Akshay Kumar who plays the title role of a conman in the film Tees Maar Khan , it was Kaif who was the highlight of the promotional event as the audience continued to cheer for her, asking her to shake a leg on the hit number.
Dressed in a short black dress, Kaif looked stunning as she wore a smile all through the event and waved at the crowd while throwing music CDs of the film towards them. She sportingly danced on the number too and even taught some steps to her leading man and a few people from the crowd picked up randomly to perform along with her on the stage.
Kumar, who was dressed in a colourful shirt in keeping with his tapori image in the upcoming film, however, looked unfazed with Sheila Ki Jawani stealing the thunder. “ I have been showing my jawani for the past 22 years, so, now I have given it to Sheila,” he joked. When someone asked as to why he was sticking only to comedy and not exploring other genres these days, he said, “ As many as 90 per cent of the Indian films which have been successful at the box office are comedies.
This is because everybody wants to see something which makes them laugh.
This keeps me motivated,” he added.
The film’s producer and director, Farah Khan, who seemed self- assured at the advance booking of her film which began on Tuesday, said that she had got the best response in Delhi. When questioned about the timing of the film’s release, the Christmas weekend, which is a slot unofficially reserved for Aamir Khan ( as he has been releasing films for the last three years on this weekend), Khan said, “ This year, Aamir has come as my Santa Claus and has offered me this slot. It’s the biggest gift that he is not coming with any of his films this year.” We hope the big man’s absence works in the favour of Akshay- Katrina- Farah.
