Maestro Ilayaraja’s unseen avatar

Subbu Sujatha, a former associate of Seeman, turned independent with a movie titled Thaandavakone.

The film features Sanjay and Nandhagi, who grabbed everyone’s attention with her realistic performance in the lead role in Aval Peyar Tamizharasi. Maestro Ilayaraja’s music is said to be the backbone of the film.

“It is a romantic film with a difference. I have attempted a new narrative style. After hearing the full script, Isaignani readily agreed to compose for my film,” claims the director.

According to him, Ilayaraja was so moved by one particular situation where a song had to be incorporated that he preferred to write the lyrics for the song himself.

The emotional number talks about how a mother’s death affects an individual. “That’s how the song, which has the lyrics Neeral Udal Kazhuvi Nittha Nidha, originated. And believe me, he penned the song in just half-an-hour and followed that up by immediately composing the music for it in an hour,” he reveals.

Insiders say that Sanjay shed about 15 kilos to suit his offbeat role and has almost lived the character for the past one-and-a-half years of shooting.

The climax will be an arresting one, the director vouches. The entire film has been shot in hilly terrain near Kurangani hills and in available light for the most part.
